MATERIALS |
EXPLANATIONS |
Clay |
This is used for making the wall of the Genbaku-Dome. |
Styrofoam |
This is used for the core of the wall. Choose a Styrofoam with a suitable thickness, depending on the size of the Genbaku-Dome you want to make. |
Copper wire |
This is used for making the Dome itself. The copper is the only material you'll need for the framework at the dome. The copper is very useful because it is very easy for you to bend it. |
Paint material |
This is used for painting the walls. |
Fragments of ceramic or tile |
They are used for scattering bricks around the Dome and inside the Dome. |
Wooden plate |
This is used for the pedestal of the Genbaku-Dome. Your plate should be a size which can fit the Genbaku-Dome. |
Some stationery goods |
You will need glue, knife, nail, brush etc. |

STEPS |
CONTENTS |
Step 1 |
First of all, decide the size of the Genbaku-Dome you will make. It depends on the space and budget available, as well as the effect you want to create. We recommend a scale between one-hundredth to one-twentieth. |
Step 2 |
Draw the blueprint of the first floor on the pedestal. Enlarge the sketches with photocopies to fit the size you want. Trace these sketches on the pedestal by inserting carbon paper between the photocopied blueprints and the pedestal. |
Step 3 |
Make the walls of the Genbaku-Dome. You'll need a cylindrical shaped device to make the center of the Genbaku-Dome. You can bend the styrofoam into a cylindrical shape by slightly cutting the styrofoam into a series of segments. You can then bend the styrofoam into shape. |
Step 4 |
Make the Dome with copper wire. Copper wire is the best material to use because of its softness. By bending the copper wire, you can create the oval shape of the Dome. |
Step 5 |
When you finish building the Genbaku-Dome, paint it with the colors called for in the color photographs. |
Step 6 |
Scatter the fragments of ceramic inside and around the Genbaku-Dome. |
Step 7 |
Try to re-create some of the wreckage that surrounded the Genbaku-Dome. We recommend fallen electric poles and lines, victims lying dead, and rubble scattered in the road. |
Step 8 |
Please hold an exhibition for your Genbaku-Dome. Many people will learn about peace by seeing it. We suggest that you include information about the current situation with regard to nuclear weapons in the world today. |
